A disappointing qualifying, a fantastic first race and a very difficult second race of the weekend: this was how Enzo Ide lived his home race of the Blancpain GT Series at Circuit Zolder. After qualifying in 19th position, the WRT Audi pairing Christopher Mies and Enzo Ide took sixth in the race on Saturday. A tyre issue during the second race of the weekend made them drop back and 13th was the final result of the weekend. Mies and Ide showed very good speed this weekend, but the final result was not as good as expected.
Enzo Ide sounded very disappointed after qualifying on Saturday. “Differences are so limited, we have to start from 19th place, where as a few tents of a second less would have taken us to a top 10 on the starting grid. I don’t know why, but it did not work out as we wanted.”
The qualifying race held as well on Saturday, brought a very different story. Christopher Mies took a very strong start, the team performed excellent during the pit stop and Enzo Ide performed on the same high level to bring the car home in 6th position.
“From 19 tot 6 on a race track where overtaking is difficult… What can we say? It’s just amazing and it means that we will start in 6th tomorrow for the main race. A podium spot is not longer impossible, while this morning we had low hopes to finish in the top 10 of this race…”
But the end of the weekend was very frustrating… “My set of tyres was just really bad, the had no grip at all and I was struggling everywhere. Furthermore I got touched on all sides and dropped from 6th on the starting grid to 15th… Just no words needed to express how I’m feeling…”
The reigning champions came home in 13th position.
